I've had an unused laptop for over a year now (the motherboard's all messed up) and I've been thinking if it is possible for me to use the rest of it other than its hard disk and optical disk drive. Is it possible to use my laptop keyboard (or convert it) so that it can be used on my PC?
I've got a Vista laptop and a macbook running 10.4.11.The pc laptop is hooked up to a TV and I often use it and the macbook at the same time, which leads to a lot of me wondering why my mouse and keys aren't working due to me using the wrong device's keys. I used to have a keyboard with a super long cord but that broke and now my choices are to either buy a wireless keyboard, which I don't want to do or see if there's some software that will solve my issues. Is there a way to use my macbook as a wireless keyboard/mouse to control my PC? I've tried using Synergy but I couldn't get that to work at all.I don't really need the duplicated desktop of a remote desktop since both machines have their own displays that I can see at the same time, but if that will work and not cause a performance hit on my pc laptop (used for streaming video and playing h.264 stuff) I'd be willing to give it a shot.
@lane:I can't get it to connect. I'm using version 1.3.1 on both machines since the macbook doesn't have a high enough version of OSX to run the latest version and on the mac I'm using the QSynergy GUI I put the macbook as a server and the pc as a client but all I get from the PC is: ERROR: failed to connect to server: Timed outI don't know if it matters, but the PC is connected to my network via ethernet and wifi (I do this because all my wired devices seem to be blind to wireless ones and vice versa) and Macbook connects via wifi. I haven't used it in awhile, but something like AirDroid or the like could be helpful. I've heard of a handful of apps that work in the same fashion, exposing your Android device to a browser on the local network. With AirDroid running you can connect to it on your laptop using the IP address of the phone and a port number.
Use Laptop As Keyboard For Phone
Something like this:The browser window will let you control the phone. I used it a few times to write long texts/emails.
How To Use A Laptop As A Keyboard
It does a lot, you should be able to initiate calls, browse phone data like contacts, look at media, etc.I just scanned a review of the new version, it sounds much better and doesn't require your phone and laptop be on the same network. You could also use a standard usb keyboard and a USB OTG adapter. I've done this before. The adapters can be found for very cheap online, a few bucks. One end plugs into your phone's micro USB, the other can accept the standard USB plug on the keyboard. The adapter allows the phone to act as the USB host, the keyboard as the slave device. This doesn't exactly fit your request, I suspect you would rather use the laptop's keyboard instead of having another keyboard around just for your phone, but I thought it worth mentioning.
